New Notebook PC Alarm Is a Real Screamer
July 5th, 2007
The FBI says that more than 90 percent of stolen computer equipment is never recovered. But a thief might think twice about snatching your
notebook PC if it has Port’s Defcon 1 security alarm screaming from it.
Roughly the size of a compact cellular phone, the $49.95 Defcon 1 attaches to a carrying case or to the notebook’s security lock slot and emits a
110-decibel howl if anyone so much as turns the notebook over.
If you accidentally knock over the notebook, a three-beep warning gives
you time to disable the alarm before the noise wakes the neighbors. The
Defcon 1 runs on a 9-volt battery that can’t be yanked when the alarm is
engaged.
